(DesBrisay, p.31 prints a Memo of Block-houses, etc. 1753- thirteen of them, of which the last is "at Jacob Hirtle's Mills". The date assigned to this memo is highly suspect. It is easily shown, from unimpeachable records, that several of the listed block houses were not built until some years after 1753 (the actual dates of their construction is determinable from correspondence between Col. Sutherland and the authorities at Halifax, for instance). And one can be pretty confident that none of the foreign settlers had any mills anywhere as early as 1753. Where Jacob Hirtle's mill or mills stood is not, so far as I know, determinable; but possibly he managed to get a little water power (by damming, etc.) at certain seasons, or a little brook that flows out by the foot of his 30-Acre Lot. In that case, perhaps the block-house was, or intended to be, on the hi (marked Conrad Hill on today's topographical maps) above it (Jacob Hirtle's lot straddled the hill)- which has an extensive prospect and would be very suitable for a strong observational post.).

1784: granted 1,020 acres, Lunenberg Township.
Occupation: Yeoman/miller. Church Affiliation: Anglican.
Wives: (1) Anna Maria (Le Garce) Shuffelberger
(2) (Susanna) Catherine Selberger

He was married to Anna Maria LE GARCE on 11 May 1756 in St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, Lunenburg, NS.(11) Anna Maria LE GARCE(12) was born in 1735 in Montbeliard, France. She died on 7 Jul 1777 in Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.(13) She was buried on 9 Jul 1777 in Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. She was also known as Anna Maria (L'Argie) LEGARCE.(14) Arrived in Nova Scotia on the "Betty," 1752. Johann Jacob HIRTLE and Anna Maria LE GARCE had the following children:

child10 i. Anna Maria HIRTLE(15) was born in 1757. She was baptized on 25 Sep 1757.(16) She died on 24 Jan 1758.
child+11 ii. Anna Barbara Magdalena HIRTLE.

child+15 vi. (John) Peter HIRTLE\HARTLING.
child+16 vii. John Michael HIRTLE.
child+17 viii. Johanna Catherine HIRTLE.

child25 xvi. Johan George (twin) HIRTLE(23) was born on 18 Jun 1777 in Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.(22) He was christened on 22 Jun 1777. He died on 27 Jun 1778.

He was married to (Susanna) Catherine SEEBERGER on 19 Oct 1777 in Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. (11) (Susanna) Catherine SEEBERGER was born about 1757. She was baptized on 24 Jan 1757. Thoresen in 1974 listed (John) Jacob Hirtle's second wife as Susanna Catherine Seeberger or Selberger. The marriage record for Jacob shows him, as a widower, marrying Susanna Catherine Seeberger. Other spellings are common; Facini, for example gives the name Seaboyer in her GEDCOM file.

Thoresen also listed Seeberger's mother's maiden name as "Susannah Ely or Morash," but the records of St. John's Anglican Church list Susanna Catherine as being born to Johannes Seeberger & Susanna Eliz Morasch. Wright, Planters and Pioneers, lists Susanna Catherine as the first child of Johannes Seeberger and Elizabeth Morasch. A marriage between Johannes SEEBURGER and Susanne Elizabeth Morasch is recorded at St. Johns Anglican Church on 30 March 1755. This fits well with a child born in 1757.

Wright says the following about the Seebergers (p.249):

SEEBERGER, JOHANNES (SEIBERGER, SEABURGHER &C), LUNENBURG.

farmer, from Palatinate, Pearl, 1751, ae 29, bur. 1778, ae 56. m. 30 Mar. 1757 (sic), Elizabeth Morasch. Ch.: Susanna Catherine, Catherine Elizabeth, Anna Maria, John, Edward.

NOTE: Shankle's index lists Susanna Catherine as Susanna Catherine Morasch. According to the above analysis, this would be very wrong. Her mother was a Morasch, but she was born a Seeburger. Johann Jacob HIRTLE and (Susanna) Catherine SEEBERGER had the following children:

child26 i. Johannes HIRTLE was born on 6 Aug 1779 in Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.(22) He was baptized on 15 Aug 1779 in Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. (22) He died on 29 Apr 1784 in Eichwald, Nova Scotia. Drowned in Eichwald (Oakland).
child+27 ii. John Frederick HIRTLE\HARTLING.
child+28 iii. Johannes Leonard HIRTLE.
child29 iv. Johannes HIRTLE was born on 8 Oct 1784 in Nova Scotia. (24) He was baptized on 17 Oct 1784 in Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.(25) He died on 18 Jan 1787 in Mush-a-Mush, Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia.
child+30 v. Catherine Elizabeth HIRTLE.
child31 vi. Johann Heinrich HIRTLE was born on 4 Jun 1788. (26) He died on 7 Jun 1817.(27) He was a cordwainer. "Will proved."
