12. (John) Philip HARTLING ⁽⁶⁶⁾⁽⁶⁷⁾ was born in 1760. He was baptized on 10 Jul 1760 in St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, Lunenburg, NS.⁽⁶⁸⁾ Bell's Notes have this date for baptism.
My notes say 23 Sept. 1760, St Johns Anglican Church, for his birth/baptism. He died after 1838 in Noddy Quoddy, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Philip Hartling indicates that his death was at Quoddy. He resided 1760 < 1810 in LaHave, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. He resided by 1810 in Quoddy, Halifax, Nova Scotia.⁽⁶⁹⁾ Hartling notes that he has signed a petition for road construction in Quoddy in October, 1810. He resided by 1827 in Noddy Quoddy, Halifax, Nova Scotia.⁽⁷⁰⁾⁽⁷¹⁾ Given as "Newcomquoddy" in the Census. He was a Sawmiller. He was a Famer in 1827.⁽⁷²⁾ Thoresen Family Group Sheet. Son Peter accompanied John Philip & stepmom Anna Elizabeth Hartling to Eastern Shore, arriving ca. 1810 @ Quoddy, N.S. On 20 Nov. 1817 Peter Hartlin of Beaver Harbour (residence Quoddy) & Mary Horn of Eastern Passage were married. Peter and Mary resided @ Quoddy. In 1824 Sept. petition of Hale's Grant they had 4 children.

Philip Hartling, the son of Jacob and Anna Maria Hartling (Hirtle), was baptized 10 July, 1760. He was born in Lunenburg County (probably at LaHave) but died at Quoddy. He was married twice, first to Susanna Elizabeth Bourgogny, in December, 1871 and secondly to Ann Elizaeth Graas (Grass), whom he married on 3 April 1794. Ann Elizabeth (nee Grass) Hartling was the daughter of Conrad and E. C. Grass. She was born 10 August, 1773 in Lunenburg County, and died 17 June, 1854 at Quoddy. Philip and Ann Elizabeth Hartling were the first Hartlings to leave Lunenburg County for this section of the Eastern Shore. They had arrived in Quoddy by 1810. In October, 1810 Philip Hartling signed a petition regarding road construction. Although he had children by both wives, it appears that only the children by his second wife accompanied him to Quoddy. There was one exception, however: Peter, the son of Philip and Susanna Elizabeth Hartling, who was born on 22 October, 1793. On 20 November, 1817, Peter Hartlin (not spelled Hartling) of Beaver Harbour (his residence would be Quoddy), and Mary Horn of Eastern Passage, were married. Peter and Mary Hartlin probably lived at Quoddy for a time since Peter Hartlin had a wife and four chldren when he signed the petition for a portion of the Hale's grant in September, 1824. Two children of Philip Hartling's first marriage were Leonard and David, who must have died at an early age since both names appear as children of Philip's second marriage. In 1827 Philip Hartling, Senior had nine cultivated acres. He harvested twenty bushels of grain other than wheat, four hundred and fifty bushels of potatoes, and he cut seventeen tons of hay. He kept eighteen head of cattle, twenty sheep, and five pigs.

He was married to Susanna Elizabeth BURGOYNE on 27 Dec 1781 in "D".⁽¹¹⁾ Thoresen has a date of 1 Dec. 1781 for this. Susanna Elizabeth BURGOYNE⁽⁷³⁾ was born in 1762. She died before 1794. He was married to Anna Elizabeth CROSS on 3 Apr 1794 in St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, Lunenburg, NS.⁽¹¹⁾ Thorsen has the date as 4 April 1794, and gives the name as Anna Elizabeth Graess, not Kraus. Shankle gives as a date "1783 BEF" and lists the spouse as "Susanna Elizabeth Krauss." Shankle also lists an Anna Elizabeth Krauss marrying Philip Hirtle, widower, on 3 April 1794. I think this latter is the second marriage.

Anna Elizabeth CROSS⁽⁷⁸⁾⁽⁷⁹⁾ was born on 10 Aug 1773. She was christened on 29 Aug 1773 in St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, Lunenburg, NS. She died on 17 Jun 1854 in Quoddy, Halifax, Nova Scotia. She was also known as Anna Elizabeth Graas/Graess/Grass/Graeff. She was also known as Crouse (in Shankle's file). Thoresen has GRAAS as the last name. Erv Cross insists the name is CROSS. See his e-mail in SOURCES. (John) Philip HARTLING and Anna Elizabeth CROSS had the following children:
