Extract from Philip Hartling's book: "Peter Hartling, who was baptized
23 Septemer, 1764, was the brother of Philip Hartling and son of Jacob and Anna
Maria Hartling (Hirtle). He was born in Lunenburg county and on 17 January,
1796 he married Anna Barbara Bourgongny. they resided in the Mahone Bay area,
probably at Oakland, before moving to the Eastern Shore. The exact year they
left Lunenburg County is not known but most likely it was in the 1820's. According
to Canon Harris' Notes on the "Hirtle" family, Peter Hartling moved
first to Ecum Secum and later to the Liscomb area, probably to Spanish Ship bay.
His son, Jacob Hartling, did not move to the Liscomb area but instead settled
at Beaver Harbour."
Vicky Ryan adds:
'Ecum Secum, (pop. 253), Like the majority of the districts along this shore,
Ecum Secum is a fine game territory. The name is derived from an Indian word
meaning "red bank." Annually, visiting anglers take many salmon from
the pools of Ecum Secum River."
He was married to Anna Barbara BURGOYNE on 17 Jan 1796 in Zion Lutheran Church,
Lunenburg, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.(11)
