SECOND GENERATION

9. Johanna HIRTLE (53)(35) (54) was born in 1738. (55) She died on 25 Jan 1810.(13) Hartling gives the name as HERTLIN, and notes that: "At this time the name Hirtle was being spelled in several fashions such as Hartling, Hertlin, Hirtling, etc."

She was married to Heinrich MOSER on 11 May 1769 in St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, Lunenburg, NS. (11)(56) (57) Last name is "Moser" in Shankle's Online Index. Heinrich MOSER(35) (58)(59) was born about 1744 in SWITZERLAND. Facini gives the name as Heinrich; Hartling calls him Henry; Wright says it is Ulrich or Heinrich.

Hartling writes:

"Henry Moser, the son of Jacob and Anna Maria Moser, was granted sixty-two acres in Lunenburg Township Grant on 30 June, 1784. It appears, however, that he did not want to remain on his land, and instead moved to the Eastern Shore. In 1796 Henry Moser bought a total of 850 acres from Philip Foss. In the same year, for the sum of 450 pounds, he bought 600 acres on the west side of Necum Teuch (Moose River), 300 acres on the east side of Necum Teuch Harbour, and 200 acres at Moose Head from George Dunn. At the time the deed was registered (10 July, 1797), Henry Moser had built his house on the west side of Necum Teuch (undoubtedly the west side of Moser River).

In 1809 Henry Moser petitioned the government for land in the Moser River area stating that he was a native of Germany. Germany would have been used to denote all those German-speaking people in Europe. It must be remembered that at that time the country now known as Germany did not exist but instead was composed of numerous small states. Henry Moser, at that time, had one child residing at his home. Four of his sons were married: Philip, who had a wife and one child; Henry, who had a wife and five children; Matthew, who had a wife and six children; and Leonard, who had a wife and one child. He also had two sons-in-law, John Urbanus Smith, who had a wife and seven children and Leonard Whitman, who had a wife and three children. Henry Moser was in possession of approximately five hundred acres which he obtained about 1798 during the administration of Lieutenant Governor John Wentworth. Henry Moser, however, now wished confrimation of the land for himself and his family. On 25 April, 1815 the following were granted 2,350 acres: Henry Moser, Senior; Henry Moser, Junior; Philip Moser; Matthew Moser; Leonard Moser; and John Urbanus Smith. A license of occupation to an island known as Wilds Island (located about two miles east of Quoddy and containing approximately eighty acres) was given to Matthias (Matthew) Moser in April, 1806. In 1816 each of the following was given a license of occupation to one quarter of Sober Island (then known as Sheet Harbour Island, which contained 780 acres): Henry Moser, Senior; Henry Moser, Junior; John Moser; and John Allen." Johanna HIRTLE and Heinrich MOSER had the following children:
