He was married to (Margaretta or Mary) Gertrude MEISNER (daughter of ) in 1826/27 in Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. (11) Shankle's index gives the date as "1826 BEF". Thoresen has 1827. (Margaretta or Mary) Gertrude MEISNER (360) was born in 1802. (361) She was baptized on 11 Aug 1802. She died on 6 Jan 1891 in New Canada, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Originally ""1894", but changed to 1891. She was buried in Midville Branch, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Gravestone, Midville Branch Cemetery: In memory of Gertrude M., Wife of Jacob Hirtle, died Jan. 6, 1891 age 88 yrs. Known as "Doctor Woman." Obituary. Mr. George Hirtle

It is with feelings of sorrow that we are called to record the
death of Mr. George Hirtle, in the 28th year of his age, a member
of the Congregation of St. Pauls Church, Bridgewater. The
circumstances of his death are involved in some mystery. He left
his father's house to perform some labor in the woods. Not
returning home, at the usual hour, search was forthwith made, and
the body of the unfortunate young man was found in the woods,
life extinct - His sun went down in the prime of life, and his
labors on earth have ceased.

He was a good man, much beloved and esteemed by all who knew him,
and we trust that he has been transplanted from the Church
militant to the Church triumphant. The funeral services were
performed by his Pastor, the Editor of this paper, on the 18th of
February last. May the Lord sanctify to his bereaved parents and
friends, the sudden affliction brought upon them. "Blessed are
the dead which die in the Lord."
He was buried on 18 Feb 1865 in Bridgewater, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Thoresen has birth date as 10 Oct 1837
