(20) Bell's notes list a fourth sheet of Hirtles not related to Hans
Michael's family. The text is as follows:
HIRTLE, Johannes Martin / Susanna Elizabeth / Regina Barbara
One may record these as HIRTLEs since they appear in Nova Scotia records under
that name as often as any other form.
[ According to their birth records in the Johann Micahel Schmitt family bible
the surname was HERTTEL. (The Schmitt bible had orignally been the bible of Georg
Herttel, who spelled his name so. He was the father of the three- himself born
in 1687 - by his second wife, Maria Barbara Eugelhorn. (According to her age
recorded at her death, Dec. 1783, she was born in April or May 1709.) Georg
himself died 3 Sept. 1736. In Nov. 1738 his widow married Johann Michael Schmitt.
Thus the children of George Herttel's second marriage came to Nova Scotia with
their step-father, as part of his family. So while the boy was old enough to
be separately listed in the ship-manifest, the girst were counted as accompanying
Johann Michael Schmitt, instead of young Herttel.]
HERTELL, Johann Martin-
Gale 1752. Farmer, Age 18, from Palatinate. 1.-.-.-. Indebted for one freight
fl 75.12.0. Wrote an excellent signature: "Johann Martin H^rtel".
According to the above mentioned bible he had been born (apparently at Leiman,
in the Palatinate) on 8 June 1733.

having begotten ten children.

II) (Roll 1 has an entry of the same marriage withthe bride's name unaccountably
(probably transcriber's confusion of two different originals) given as "Cath
Marg Helman" & Roll III has "Barbara Harlinger". That it
was really Regina Barbara the baptismal records of the Ernst family soon show
(see in Sec. III)
